An innovative and unique experience, Barriers combines an interactive video installation with expressive live dance influenced by deafness and communication in an increasingly digital world.

Ben Glover and Monica Nicolaides come together to develop a multi-sensory environment which highlights the importance of communication and the barriers deaf people face. Motion tracking technologies manipulate a constantly changing virtual environment through video projections of sound waves and creative captions. The installation is accompanied with live dance which forms a new language of conversation between the body and the virtual environment, words and phrases are linked to stylised body movement inspired by Visual Vernacular recounting the challenges of communication from a deaf perspective.
